Gerald Williams is not your stereotypical bodybuilder. Having been a student athlete most of his life, there has always been a strong focus on athletics and other interpersonal pursuits. Gerald played soccer through most of his childhood, eventually being selected for a United States National Soccer team. Growing up his family told him: “there is no such thing as I can’t;” and “to whom much is given much is expected.”

Transitioning to high school Gerald started playing football. He excelled and was moved to varsity in his sophomore year. Football was Gerald’s introduction to structured weight training and summer between sophomore and junior year; Gerald discovered that he could train without having to play football, which was a game changer in his career.

The following year Gerald stopped playing sports in favor of studying the art of bodybuilding and training fervently. It was then that a staff member at the gym he attended encouraged him to compete. 8 weeks later Gerald competed in his first fitness competition the 2003 NPC Contra Costa where he placed second. At that point, he was hooked. He wanted to be the best! Over the following two years, Gerald worked toward winning the 2005 Overall Teenage Nationals.

Gerald competed again in 2007 and 2008 placing well, however; the unexpected death of his mother changed many of the life plans he had laid out. In 2008 Gerald decided to take a break from Bodybuilding to focus on getting other areas of his life “in shape.” This included completing his undergraduate education, Masters, and beginning work on his PhD. It was in graduate school that he was recruited to do applied research and developed an interest in teaching at the collegiate level. Gerald is also a licensed California Real Estate Agent and has a passion for buying, renovating and selling homes.

In 2015 Gerald felt ready to get back on stage and continue his purist of becoming an IFBB Professional Bodybuilder.
